Count usable days, not calendar days
Arrival, transfers and departure all take time. Put every travel leg into the outline, including getting to terminals and settling into a new stay. If an eight-day holiday contains four major moves, be honest about how much time is left for exploring.
Pick a few places that belong together
Choose one main area and a small number of bases. Ask what you would gain by removing the furthest stop. You might trade a long transfer for another walk, a local experience or a day with no alarm. A regional focus often makes the trip easier to shape.
Protect an open day
Outdoor plans change, and sometimes you simply want to stay somewhere longer. Keep some space for weather, rest or an unexpected discovery. Treat that flexibility as part of the itinerary, rather than a gap you have to fill.
